Grasslands

Beneath the vast blue sky,

lies stretches of green meadows,

for us human, they seem empty,

yet, they are nature's divine gift. 

For, here's a haven for creatures,

from soaring birds, to grazing herds,

it's a nursery, that incubated life,

supporting growth, of flora & fauna. 

It's not what we see on surface,

root runs deeper, like a sturdy net,

anchoring the soil, a carbon sink,

filtering the water, & combat drought. 

They are not just a single species, 

natural grass are a diverse habitat,

coming in different shape & sizes,

providing food, acting as micro habitats. 

Yet, they slowly lost their place,

in our greed and carelessness, 

converting it into ploughing fields,

or plantation of commercial trees. 

More and more of it vanished,

along with its resident species,

being hunted or driven away,

poisoned with herbicide & insecticides. 

So, let us protect, these verdant fields,

when ecosystems survive, they will shield,

becoming vital cogs, driving planet's wheels,

into the future of grassland, & human beings.
