Gifts

In greetings & celebrations,

we bring items, to be gifted,

as a symbol, of our affection, 

strengthening bonds & connections, 

forming smiles on their faces,

sometimes pleasant with surprises,

people may count the prices,

while others value the gestures,

the thoughts gone behind it. 

Gifts... 

I have always wondered,

how it might have entered,

being embraced as traditions, 

in our ancient civilizations, 

practiced through generations, 

changing shapes & imagination, 

conveying deeper expressions, 

fulfilling various purposes,

making or breaking relations. 

And I explored, how it evolved, 

since other species have followed,

helping them in forging bonds,

vital for survival in groups,

while we continued the process,

from friendships to barter trades,

where tribes & leaders rewards,

establishing their dominance, 

promoting perceived social status. 

So I understood the importance, 

of this system of sharing objects,

as a symbol of our connections, 

with or without conditions.
