Changing relationships

Relationship were about connections, 

while developing feelings of affection,

where the wants, needs and wellbeing, 

were bound to duties and obligations. 

For, people have accepted the roles,

giving purpose, with sense of control,

keeping them busy and occupied, 

for a happy and fulfilling life. 

There were exceptions who stole,

enforcing their will, using loopholes, 

to satisfy them greed and desires,

weak and gullible were exploited. 

Then we arrive to modern times,

where lines were blurred, tasks redefined, 

as people become more independent, 

with opportunities, they could find. 

And here, relationships changed,

no longer sacred, with dwindling patience, 

for, expectations rose, with options laid,

bringing negotiations, for every pledge. 

Changing relationship... 

Now, it makes me wonder,

was it moving in better directions, 

when there's no distinction between,

deeper engagements & casual relations?
