In the first day of Mesa (Hindu calendar),
we would gather, for the celebrations,
preparing for the Puja in the mornings,
fruits, flowers & sweets as offerings,
blowing of Counch, ringing of bells,
while chant & prayers reverberates,
seeking blessings of our deities,
Surya, Hanuman & lord Shiva.
Pana Sankranti...
Traditional Odia new year,
come with vibrant festivals,
preparing cooling beverages,
a drink made out of wood apple,
to be shared with everyone.
The day spent in performing rituals,
devotees visit to temples & shrines,
celebrating birthday of lord Hanuman,
or various forms of devi Maa Shakti,
dedicating days for Parva & Yatras.
And we pray, seeking divine blessings,
having feasts, in community gatherings,
making drinks with Bael, chhena & fruits,
adding spices, along with the sweets,
marking the occasion with full fervor.
Happy Odia New year!
