Building roads

Roads, roads, everywhere,

It's never ending construction,

further, deeper, reaching sites,

from city centers, to peripheries,

complying to never ending demands.

A sign of development,

made promises for stakeholders,

adding to their conveniences,

of connecting far and wide,

from their home's front entrance.

When business becomes reasons,

nothing stops from the decisions,

greed reigns, conscience loses,

so does the sacred space,

the dwellings of wildlifes.

Not sparing any existing habitats,

eliminating forest, grasslands, & wetlands,

acting as a barrier to fragment lands,

restricting movements of wild animals, impacting population of various species.

These modern paths damage ecosystems,

exploiting resources, accumulate pollutants,

likes of oils, grease, litters and heavy metal,

while disrupting natural drainage patterns,

causes soil erosion & water contamination.

Building highways...

Getting easy environmental clearances,

clearing vegetations, doing excavation,

drilling mountains, and undergrounds,

leading to instability, even landslides.

And we witness, welcoming tracks,

both cheering, and protesting,

in silence...
