Wetland forests

One of the important warriors, 

to maintain ecological balance, 

are woodlands, on waterlogged soils,

known as the wetland forests... 

For, the soil is saturated with water,

with trees, adapted to wet conditions, 

creating the unique ecosystems,

supporting species of plant & animals. 

It's value, far exceeds biological role,

as it also helps in flood control,

filtering water, preventing erosion,

also helps in carbon sequestration. 

We would find them everywhere,

in the swamps, marshes and mangroves,

even the jungles along river & streams,

supporting wide range of wildlife. 

Yet, us human, have taken control,

draining or destroying, for agriculture, 

filling it with cement, rock and sands,

for building empires of real estates. 

And, we are now, facing consequences, 

numerous threats of climate change,

brought by floods and landslides,

due to deforestation & encroachment. 

So, let us protect wetland forests,

besides the lakes, rivers & oceans,

with the involvement of communities, 

and implementing government policies.
