Running on the tracks

Running on the tracks,

straight towards destination,

propulsion changed with years,

from steam, diesel and electric.

Each station, newer stage,

carried passengers, not overwhelmed,

reached terminals on times,

being trusted for commitments.

The horn was loud, echoing around,

passing through tunnels and crowds,

spectators joined, cheered the ride,

filled with wonder, envy and pride.

Yet, things changed with age,

losing luster, decline in performance,

while new generations arrived,

better features, novel designs.

With better visibility, they would shine,

shorter stops, captivating the minds,

for experiments, not the functioning,

values replaced, for them to rise.

Little by little, reducing footfall,

commuters complained, getting critical,

as if using the archaic model,

which was outdated, lost relevance.

Running on the tracks,

where rails too developed cracks,

it still worked, for given tasks,

reminiscing days, of glorious past.

Yet, there's no noise, just silence,

for, it had lost the zeal to whistle,

being devoted to fulfill promises,

and waiting, for better days...
