Glass

They are brittle & fragile,

still being sought after,

for its various properties,

having profound impact, 

on human civilizations. 

In the natural places,

we discovered its uses,

when lava cooled obsidian, 

became part of ancients,

made into sharp instruments. 

For a million years we knew,

utilized primitive cutting tools,

but later developments brought,

newer functions into limelight, 

making utensils or decorations. 

But the most valuable thing, 

was its contributions in science,

changing the way we visualize, 

macroscopic to microscopic, 

elements of the universe. 

Glass, these amorphous solids,

have deeply influenced our lives,

as basis of important services,

which are visible, like our screens,

and invisible, remaining in backgrounds.
